Vesti Bag Made From Mindanao's Beautiful Textiles

One of the things that I love to collect aside from cook books are purses. There is something about them that I can't resists and want me to buy more if my budget permits. When it comes to bags, I don't care about the product name or signature brands, as long as I like the fabrics, textiles, color and most importantly the designs.

I am out of the country for more than 10 years now but my love and loyalty to Philippines local products will always be in my heart. One of my favorite bag, is a beautiful bag from Mindanao made of hand woven abaca. A friend of mine from Mindanao gave it to me as a "pasalubong" (gift) when she came back from vacation. She gave me a beautiful bag that I fell in love with right away the moment she handed it to me.

Looking back, I checked online for Mindanao's native products and I came across this eye catching bags from vesti.ph. These bags are really worth buying. My personal favorite is the Yakan collection. I checked online how to order, too bad they only ship items within the Philippines.

Anyway, here is how the Vesti.ph started: Martha Rodriguez, founder and designer of vesti bags ,started in 2010 with a circular-shaped sling made of abaca that was a hit to everybody. Because of the success she thought about creating another brand of bags that would showcase indigenous fabrics from Mindanao. And the rest is history, Vesti bag is now one of the Philippines pride.

VESTI is incorporating Mindanao weaves as key design, assisting Mindanao small-scale industries and livelihood programs and promoting "Mindanaonon-Materials". VESTI is all about Mindanao Handwoven Indigenous Fabric Bags, 'clothing' ETHNICITY with MODERNITY.

Like you my love for Filipino products will always be there. Last year, when I visited the Philippines I bought a couple of purses from Baguio City and gave them to my American friends. 22. Wow! My mom loves these kinds of bags. I remember my mom insisting that I should buy her bags made of t'nalak whenever I visit South Cotabato. I didn't know there are bags made of abaca, too. I think the abaca bags are more affordable than the t'nalak.

It's something to be proud of and who's gonna wear Chanel's, Armani's and Big LV, when they look cheap compared to this, you can be classy just by displaying this beautiful piece of artworks and it's our heritage :)
